DS Altimeter is a versatile tool for measuring and mapping elevation and altitude. With the ability to track and display your own altitude, as well as search for altitude information of other locations, this app offers a range of features for outdoor enthusiasts and professionals.

The app provides access to various reliable sources of elevation data:

1. Location-based altitude from NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission.
2. Satellite-based altitude (GPS altitude) corrected to height above mean sea level.
3. Actual land survey altitude values from the United States Geological Survey (available for customers in the contiguous United States, southern Canada, and northern Mexico).
4. For devices equipped with a barometer sensor, pressure altitude can also be obtained and converted to elevation above sea level. Calibration ensures the most accurate readings.

The barometric altimeter offers four calibration tools:

1. Calibrate to the nearest airport by choosing your airport from the app's dynamic list of nearby airfields.
2. Enter a QNH value.
3. Enter the benchmark altitude value for your location.
4. Calibrate the barometric altimeter against the SRTM altitude map.

DS Altimeter also works offline, as barometric and GPS altitudes corrected to elevation above sea level do not require an internet connection.

New features in DS Altimeter include a floating altimeter that can be placed over other apps, a photo altimeter that displays altitude on captured photographs, and the ability to determine the altitude difference and grade between two locations on a map. The app also allows users to record altitude profiles and elevation tracks for their journeys.

With the "Special" edition, users can view altitude recordings on included maps and tap any track point to retrieve the altitude at that specific location. Additionally, users can search for the altitude above sea level by entering a place name or address.

Upgrading to the pro version of the app unlocks even more features, such as the Altimeter Widget.

For skiing enthusiasts, DS Altimeter allows users to record ski runs and view elevation points on included maps, clearly indicating the minimum and maximum altitudes of the run.

Altitude mapping is a built-in feature of DS Altimeter, allowing users to tap anywhere on a map to find the altitude and address of that location.

The app also includes a detailed help section and is ideal for skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, and other outdoor sports. It can be used whenever curiosity about elevation arises.

In terms of permissions and privacy, DS Altimeter requires:

1. Location permission for GPS data used in land survey altitude matching and determining elevation above the Geoid (then corrected to elevation above sea level).
2. Photos/Media/Files permission for screen capture procedures when sharing altitude results as images.
3. Boot permission and Wake-up phone (Wake-Lock) permission to periodically refresh values on the Altimeter Widget and reactivate it after phone reboots. (Wake-Lock is only required for phones running Android Lollipop and earlier.)
4. Internet and Network permissions to access online land survey databases in government facilities.
5. Billing permission for purchasing the application, activating the altimeter widget, removing advertising, and receiving unlimited altitude-track recordings.
6. Vibrate permission for important alerts through phone vibration.
